Man arrested for masturbating at woman in Gurgaon over a week after she shares ordeal in viral clip

(Source: File)Nearly a week after a video by a woman, which showed her sharing a distressing experience of a man masturbating at her near Rajiv Chowk, was widely shared on social media, police on Monday arrested the accused from Sector 49 in Gurgaon.
The accused has been identified as Abhilash Kumar (32). “A police team, led by Inspector Krishna and ASI Mamta, analysed footage from hundreds of CCTV cameras near the incident site and employed technical investigation to identify the accused. On Monday, the team apprehended the suspect from Sector 49 in Gurgaon. Kumar, an M.Tech graduate who works at a private company, resides as a tenant in Sector-11,” a police spokesperson said.
During questioning, the officers said, Kumar allegedly admitted that he had stopped at Rajiv Chowk while returning from a parent-teacher meeting at his son’s school on August 2. He was heading to his rented accommodation when he allegedly committed the offence.
In her video, the woman while sharing her ordeal alleged that she was harassed while waiting for a cab at Rajiv Chowk after arriving from Jaipur by bus. She had recorded the incident and shared it online. The clip showed a masked man staring at her and making lewd gestures. The video had gone viral on August 5.
“Something very strange happened to me. A man came around, and he was constantly staring at me. Initially, I just ignored it, like the others do…,” she is heard saying in the clip. She noticed that the man, with his pants unzipped, was allegedly masturbating at her. The video showed the man wearing a facemask and a backpack that he had slung over his chest to cover the act.
In her clip, she also alleged initial information after she had tagged the police and other government authorities while putting the video on X. She said she had called the police helpline too. “There wasn’t even an automated message,” she said.

“The investigation is ongoing,” the police spokesperson added. The accused will be produced before a court on Tuesday for further proceedings, officers said.
