Based on a complaint filed by the victim's family, an FIR has been registered against the "absconding" accused at the Sector 40 police station, said police. (Representational Image)Police have booked a man for killing a 14-year-old girl in Gurgaon on Sunday night over alleged rivalry with the victim’s father, said officers, adding that the incident took place around 9 pm.
According to police, the body of the girl, with her throat slit, was recovered from the house of the accused — a neighbour of the victim.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family, an FIR has been registered against the “absconding” accused at the Sector 40 police station, said police.
The victim’s father said in the complaint that the girl on Sunday night had left the room where other family members were present to get a soap for herself. “Around 9.20 pm, my wife made a phone call to me and said that they ‘could not find our daughter’. I left my workplace and started searching for her. I went to the market, park, and every place in the area… but could not find our daughter,” said the father, who works at a hotel.
“The victim’s family hails from Nepal, and her father had a spat with the accused one year ago, when they lived in the same neighbourhood. The family later moved to Sector 30, but the accused followed them there too…,” said a senior police officer.
In the FIR, the victim’s father alleged that the “accused had stolen the former’s cellphone and some cash a year ago when they were neighbours earlier”. “He denied every time I confronted him… Later, we moved to a new locality. However, he moved to our new neighbourhood last month, and threatened to kill me when he was in an inebriated state… I was scared and worried about my family’s security, and so, had informed the landlord,” said the father.
On Sunday night, during the search to find the daughter, the victim’s father noticed that the accused was nowhere to be seen. The victim’s father visited the house of the accused, and “found my child inside, with her throat slit”.
The victim’s father had moved to Gurgaon from his native place in 2019. He brought his family — his wife, son, and the deceased girl — in 2020, during the Covid-19 outbreak.
