Man held for ‘misbehaving’ with DU student

According to the complaint, the 20-year-old student had gone to a shop next to her rented accommodation to look for her pet kitten.

A 55-year-old man has been arrested after a Delhi University student complained that he made inappropriate advances towards her. Police said the accused has been charged under  sections 354A (unwelcome and explicit sexual advances) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

According to the complaint, the 20-year-old student — who hails from the Northeast — had gone to a shop next to her rented accommodation to look for her pet kitten. “The owner of the shop told her that he had seen the kitten go into the storage room,” a police officer said.

The woman alleged that when she went into the storage room, she found a man sleeping there. As it was dark inside, she went to get a torch. “By the time she returned, the man was awake. The woman alleged that he made obscene gestures and removed his trousers. She then rushed to the police booth to file a complaint. An FIR has been registered and investigation is underway,” the officer said.
