The Delhi Police is questioning a man who entered an area marked ‘prohibited’ by the Ministry of Defence. The accused,Deepak, has been booked under the stringent Official Secrets Act,after he was caught loitering near the premises of the Solid State Physics Lab (SSPL),a Defence Research and Development Organisation’s establishment.

The Delhi Police arrested Deepak after jointly interrogating him with the Intelligence Bureau Officials and the Army, but the motive of his visit to SSPL is still not clear.

Sources said Deepak was unable to gather any information from the lab since he was arrested immediately after he was seen near the premises around 10 pm on September 20. The lab is situated on Lucknow Road,New Delhi, and is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defence. It was declared as a ‘prohibited area’ by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2001.

Deepak is said to be in late 20s and is a resident of Gali No 12 Jahangirpuri. A complaint has been registered under Section 3 (1) (a) of the OSA. The accused was earlier in the custody of the DRDO before being handed over to the Timarpur police station in North Delhi.

As per the FIR report,Deepak was also involved in a case of theft of copper tubes installed in air-conditioners. The case was reported on August 29 and September 1 this year. A senior police officer confirmed the incident saying,“The man entered the DRDO premises on September 20. However, the motive behind the security breach is still not clear. We have arrested him and investigations are on.”
