The incident took place on the intervening night between July 5 and 6. Police said their initial probe revealed that the accused, employed as security guards in the area, mistook the victim, Vikas, for a thief and attacked him with sticks.
According to police, on July 5, Vikas visited his brother and father at the Rajasthan Seva Sadan, a wedding venue in Sector 10 where they worked as sanitation workers, and left later that night.
But the next morning, police said his body was found on a road adjacent to the Sadan.
In a complaint filed at the Sector 11 police station, Vikas’s brother, Abhishek, alleged that he was killed by security guards, Chaman and Vijay Kumar. Police said a case was registered under murder charges of the BNS at the Sector 8 police station.
A police spokesperson stated that the team acted swiftly and arrested the security guards. Kumar hails from Badram village in Bihar’s Siwan district, and currently resides at Adarsh Nagar in Ballabgarh; Chaman is a resident of Gudawari village, Palwal.
The accused were produced in court on Monday and remanded for two days in police custody.
Vikas worked as a cleaner at swimming pools.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Abhishek said he found out about the incident through a video. “A lawyer who lives in the area made a video of the incident, saying a thief had been caught. This was circulated and reached me along with others who live nearby…,” he said.
