What’s it about?

A track that Colors has parallely experimented with on other shows such as Balika Vadhu, takes centrestage in Na Bole Tum… Na Maine Kuch Kaha. Megha Vyas is a young widowed mother of two, fighting a lonely battle in a full house,to survive the financial hardships with dignity. At the same time, she is trying to get her late husband’s name cleared from a case where he had been declared responsible for a bridge collapse that caused the death of many. Crime reporter Mohan Bhatnagar moves into Vyas’ middle-class neighbourhood. A commitment-phobic bachelor,he is investigating the same case but the two are unaware of the connection. The show takes off on a note where the sensible and responsible Megha and the cocky Mohan can barely stand each other. However,as is imperative, love will eventually blossom, much against the societal norms and the Vyas family’s wishes.

Who is in it?

Keeping to its strength of building a show on the shoulders of experienced actors,Colors has brought in Jaipur girl Aakansha Singh to play de-glam Megha. With experience in theatre, she successfully manages to keep self-pity and histrionics away from the character. Kunal Karan Kapoor, who has earlier been seen in supporting roles in Left Right Left and Pratigya essays Mohan. Anjan Srivastav is the reticent father-in-law while Rinku Karmankar is the elder daughter-in-law of the household. Megha’s children Nanhi and Adu are played by Ashnoosh Kaur and Vishesh respectively. Unlike her contemporaries,Kaur particularly stands out as she offers a restrained performance as the six-year-old who has seen too much too early in life.

With Na Bole Tum,the channel is attempting to stay close to reality. The characters are believable in both looks and performances. An attempt is being made to downplay what would be the high drama points. The characters have been established in the very first episode. However, they lack nuances and are quite linear. But that is expected from most television shows. The show, surprisingly, does not wait to build drama and the story is paced well, which is keeping the audience interested.

What’s not?

The show also seems to want to offer every possible mode of entertainment — right from a social message to the vampish bhabhi who hopes to be rich one day and thus considers Megha and her kids a financial burden. The mother-in-law has a golden heart but blames Megha for her son’s death and uses every opportunity to say so. While the audience could have done with a better-looking and stronger performer to play the spunky Mohan, one would like to believe that the channel chose the cast to give the show a touch of reality.

Should you be watching it?

The show replaces Bigg Boss in the 10pm slot. The theme was possibly too risky to be aired at primetime. It may not match up to the predecessor’s drama quotient but it has ample content to keep the audience hooked for now.
