L-G’s intervention sought on civic issues by MCD

The officials also discussed the issue of the allocation of Rs 2 crore to be used at the discretion of councillors,to which the L-G’s response was that the non-plan fund should primarily be spent project-wise. “It should be ensured that there is no misuse of this fund and there should be a balance between expenditure on projects and the discretion of councillors,” Khanna told the delegation.

Standing Committee chairman Ram Kishan Singhal also pointed out that the MCD wants to introduce a one-time amnesty scheme to bring property tax-payers who have so far escaped it into the tax net. He said the scheme would be made available for a short duration,after which the MCD will take serious penal action,including the auctioning of defaulting properties.

The delegation also appraised the L-G on the progress of certain projects,like the setting-up of the special technique hot-mix plant in Delhi and door-to-door collection of garbage.

They highlighted the need for posting two deputy commissioners who have come from the Army as the in-charges of the sanitation improvement programme in the Trans Yamuna Areas and rural areas of Narela and Najafgarh.
