Students from Salamat International Campus for Advanced Studies,Lahore,took took the winners trophy at the first India-Pakistan School Debate competition at Siri Fort on Thursday. La Martiniere Boys,Kolkata,finished second.
The debate was organised by the Debating Society of India,in association with the Debating Society of Pakistan.
Four schools from India and four from Pakistan were to speak for and against the motion. However,all Pakistani students could not travel to India and only the finalists were able to participate in the debate.
Young debaters from both sides of the border exchanged arguments for and against Open Trade for India and Pakistan.
Deepak Verma,president of Debating Society of India,said,It is very important for young people from across national boundaries to talk with one another. This exchange of thoughts and views will help shape the future relations of the two countries.
The national debate coach from Pakistan,Sufyan Sultan,said although the team was here to debate,the larger message is that of peace.
Students will interact with people and this will shape an ongoing conversation between young Indians and Pakistanis.
