Kejriwal hits the road: Water, power subsidy across the country

The roadshow began from Shakur Basti at 10 am. Kejriwal toured the Chandni Chowk constituency, accompanied by AAP candidate from the area Ashutosh.

During a roadshow in Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency, the AAP convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said if voted to power in the Centre, his government will provide water and power subsidies throughout the country.

Promising to take “the local to the national level”, Kejriwal reminded voters that the deadline for power and water subsidies provided by his government in Delhi had ended on March 31. Beginning Tuesday, he said, the utility bills would soar again.

Clarifying his decision to quit as Delhi chief minister after just 49 days in power, Kejriwal blamed the Congress and the BJP for not letting him pass any Bill. “They broke microphones and tore the draft copies of the Bills in the Assembly,” he told the cheering crowds.

The roadshow began from Shakur Basti at 10 am. Kejriwal toured the Chandni Chowk constituency, accompanied by AAP candidate from the area Ashutosh.

Kejriwal made several stops during the roadshow and addressed local residents. Residents could be seen peering from their windows as Kejriwal’s open jeep passed through Rani Bagh, Pitampura, Adarsh Nagar and Model Town. “Now I am confident that AAP will win all seven seats in Delhi,” Kejriwal said.

He took the help of scriptures to ‘connect’ with the people. If he quoted the Bhagavad Gita in Shalimar Bagh, Kejriwal said the AAP was a miracle of Allah in Shakurpur.

In Pitampura, he explained to the voters why he needed to contest from Varanasi instead of Delhi. “I could have contested any seat in Delhi, and I would won. But it is important to defeat Modi,” he said.

Holding out copy of a letter, which he claimed was written by the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, he said, “This is a copy of a letter that Modi wrote to the government. This states that he wants the government to increase the price of gas by four times. If gas prices increase, it will lead to overall inflation. The only party that can save you from such a future is the Aam Aadmi Party,” Kejriwal said.
