A peon in the Military Intelligence wing was among four arrested on Friday in connection with the murder of a senior citizen and attack on an elderly woman in their Kalkaji houses three days ago.
Senior police officers said Dinabandu Mallik records revealed he had not reported to work in the last one year had bought the stolen goods from the robbers identified as Saleem and Sonu.
The accused robbers,police said,had killed Janak Raj Likhi (86),a retired government employee on May 12. They then entered the adjoining residence of Vidya Gulbani (76) and gagged her before decamping with cash and jewellery.
We have arrested four persons Saleem,Sonu,Mallik and Usman. Usman is a scrapdealer; he had bought the stolen articles from Mallik. Three more persons involved in the case are absconding, Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal said.
Mallik served as a peon in the Military Intelligence wing at the Army Headquarters but had not reported to work since May 2009, Dadwal said. Police said Mallik bought the stolen articles from the robbers and resold them to Usman. He has also been involved in petty offences of thefts,he added.
Saleem and Sonu were arrested today. Their interrogation led us to Mallik and subsequently to Usman, Dadwal said.
During raids,police recovered the stolen goods from Saleem,including a silver coin taken from Gulbanis house and a cap presented to Likhi by his Italy-based daughter.
The recoveries prove they were involved. Saleem,Sonu and their associates are vagabonds, Additional Commissioner of Police Virender Singh Chahal said. A screwdriver and a pipe wrench used to gain entry to the houses were also recovered, he said.
