After two deaths within a week on campus,JNU will now have a fully-equipped ambulance. Within a week or 10 days,we will hire a full-fledged ambulance for the university. It will have paramedical staff,a doctor and other facilities. Then we will float tenders and have one permanent ambulance of our own later, said Rector II R Kumar.
Last week,a visiting lecturer from Tamil Nadu died in the campus due to a heart attack,while a first-year student Aishvarya Agrawal died of an asthma attack on September 9. Students have been demanding a round-the-clock health centre and a fully-equipped ambulance.
The two ambulances that JNU has at the moment are nothing more than transport vehicles as they do not even have oxygen cylinders. The health centre is not equipped to handle emergencies and closes at 9 pm,said sources.
