Jazz by the way

It coincided with the opening of the IPL ceremony,but the Delhi Jazz Festival did manage to bring people out of their homes,to Nehru Park,to listen to Italian pianist,Cesare Picco,on Friday evening.

It coincided with the opening of the IPL ceremony,but the Delhi Jazz Festival did manage to bring people out of their homes,to Nehru Park,to listen to Italian pianist,Cesare Picco,on Friday evening. The performance marked the opening of the three-day Delhi Jazz Festival,that concludes today. “Around 5,000 people attended the performance on Day One. People want to engage with different genres of music. We plan to organise this festival every year,” said an overwhelmed Sanjeev Bhargava,director,Seher,a cultural non-governmental organisation that has organised the festival with ICCR.

In its first year,the festival brings together jazz musicians from Germany,Scotland,Italy,Sweden,France,Canada and India. Regaling the audience today evening will be Germany-based Trio AAB,comprising twin brothers Tom and Phil Bancroft and Kevin Mackenzie. This will be followed by some soulful fusion jazz presented by Amit Heri and his group,that composed music for Shabana Azmi starrer Morning Raga. “This festival has the ability to put itself on the global map of jazz music. It is my first trip to India and I am really impressed with the arrangements,” said Tom. In August,he is looking forward to performing with Indian musicians from Chennai at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival in Scotland.

The performance at Nehru Park,Niti Marg,will begin at 6.30 pm.
