“After police arrived, one Vishnu Sharma, arrived at the spot and informed the police that the deceased woman was his wife, Shweta Sharma. He further disclosed that he had long suspected her of having an affair with another person, which frequently led to quarrels between them. On November 13 at about 9 pm, another heated argument took place, during which he lost control and decided to kill her. After allegedly committing the crime, he dumped her body in the open drain and fled from the spot,” said DCP (North-West), Bhisham Singh.

Police registered a case under sections 103(1) (murder) and 238(a) (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Mahendra Park police station. During the investigation, officers examined CCTV footage from nearby industrial units and alleys.

CCTV footage analysed from the nearby areas, police said, showed Sharma carrying his wife’s body on his shoulder and walking towards the drainage line where the body was later found.

Police said Sharma was arrested on the basis of his disclosure and corroborative evidence. Preliminary inquiry showed that he had previously been involved in three cases – one under the Excise Act and two others tied to house theft, police said.
