Maintaining a steady exchange of information with the Interpol over the movement of suspected individuals across the globe, the Centre has alerted all states, particularly the ones where areas were reportedly scouted by Pakistani-American terror suspect David Coleman Headley,to heighten their security preparedness to counter any terror strikes that may be triggered to coincide with the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

As per sources in the country’s security establishment, although there was “no specific threat” as of now, chances of terror groups attempting some trouble were not being ruled out. Having deployed close to 2 lakh security personnel to guard the Commonwealth Games Village and venues, the Centre has now deployed 12 companies (around 1,200 personnel) of paramilitary forces to guard the 36 markets in the Capital. The move follows a realisation that concentrating most of the security forces to secure the Games venues could open up security gaps in other sensitive and crowded areas in the national capital.
