The plan was scripted in detail — lure an aspiring actor by promising him a role, trick him into tying himself by calling it scene practice, and then inform him that he has been abducted.

What scriptwriter Shanti Deep Verma did not factor in was that the aspiring actor,Sumit Tiwari, would struggle so hard to break free. So,when Tiwari started calling for help,Verma strangled him — this is what Verma told police after he was arrested on Monday the charge of murder.

Tiwari’s body was found 11 days ago at Verma’s flat in Mandawali,East Delhi. The body was packed in a suitcase.

Police said Verma,an alumni of the Film and Television Institute in Pune, befriended Tiwari on social networking site,Facebook. Verma told police that he needed money and planned Tiwari’s abduction.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Dheeraj Kumar said Verma had written four scripts, but had not been able to sell any, because of which he was in a financial crisis.

Police said Verma set his plan in motion and start to search for aspiring actors on Facebook.

“Tiwari mailed Verma his profile in the hope of getting work. Verma engaged him in dialogue, pretending to offer him work in his new script. The two exchanged phone numbers, after which Verma called him several times to gain his confidence,” Kumar said.

On February 20,Verma called Tiwari to his flat again, police said, and made him enact portions of the script. He also showed Tiwari his previous scripts to gain his confidence, police said.

On February 21,Verma showed Tiwari a movie titled ‘Phas Gaye Re Obama’ on his laptop.

“There is a scene on the film where the hands and legs of the hero are tied and his mouth is gagged. Verma made Tewari enact this particular scene. Once he had him tied up,he told him that he had been kidnapped and would have to stay tied up till his parents could pay the ransom of Rs 2 lakh,” Kumar said.
