Haryana CM inaugurates Vatika Chowk underpass in Gurgaon, set to ease traffic on two arterial roads
The 800-metre-long underpass is expected to ease traffic between the Southern Peripheral Road and Golf Course Extension Road and reduce congestion at the Vatika Chowk traffic junction on the Gurgaon-Badshahpur Road.

In a bid to reduce traffic congestion in Gurgaon, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Friday inaugurated the Vatika Chowk underpass that connects the Southern Peripheral Road with Golf Course Extension Road.
The 800-metre-long underpass, built at a cost of Rs 109.14 crore by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) through the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is expected to ease traffic between the Southern Peripheral Road and Golf Course Extension Road and reduce congestion at the Vatika Chowk traffic junction on the Gurgaon-Badshahpur Road.
A GMDA official said the underpass will help ease traffic from the two arterial roads, the SPR and National Highway 8. “Both long-distance and city traffic make these junctions congested… At Vatika Chowk, there are four major traffic movements along the four-way junction. Thus, a significant amount of traffic can be removed through this. We will start work at five other major junctions between Vatika Chowk and Ghata to help remove surface traffic through separations like an underpass or flyover,” he said, adding that this would be “a game changer as many commercial complexes, offices and builder investment have increased in this region”.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Khattar said that keeping in mind the development of Gurgaon, under the guidance of the central government and that in the state, the NHAI, GMDA, MCG and Public Works Department have established mutual coordination and are implementing development works with promptness.
Reflecting on projects undertaken during the tenure of the present government, the Chief Minister said the Vatika Chowk underpass, constructed before the stipulated time and within the fixed budget, will provide a new impetus to the city’s development.
A GMDA official said construction was completed three months ahead of schedule. Khattar said that in the past nine years, 16 underpasses and 16 flyovers have been constructed in the city.
The CM further said there are 58 infrastructural projects spanning 245 km in Gurgaon, for which a budget of Rs 1,747 crore has been earmarked and Rs 1,027 crore is being spent on 10 big projects for important works like sewerage and drainage.
Addressing the event, Union Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh said due to the infrastructure created in the last nine years, the common people’s lives are improving every day.
The Chief Minister also said work on the plan made by the Haryana government for new cities around the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway is also progressing. In the coming five years, he said Gurgaon will be developed as a global city and the auction process for this will be started soon.
