HAPPY Chic

Just a few minutes before designer Rahul Mishra’s show began at WIFW Autumn-Winter 2012 on Saturday, the mood in the packed hall was that of usual,non-stop chatter, flying air kisses and the rustle of perfumed garments.

Just a few minutes before designer Rahul Mishra’s show began at WIFW Autumn-Winter 2012 on Saturday, the mood in the packed hall was that of usual,non-stop chatter, flying air kisses and the rustle of perfumed garments. And then the echoing stringed tunes of Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve distracted the audience who turned towards the ramp. But Mishra likes to surprise and models dressed in his collection titled “The Similar Opposites”,walked in from the entrance to the ramp, instead of sashaying out of the wings. Black remains his favourite base colour and the way he bonds it with onion pink, teal, neon green, red and mustard deserves the applause he received even before the models had finished their first turn. Hand-woven fabrics such as merino wool, chanderi and others such as sheer chiffon and organza were part of Mishra’s range. Models wore thick, black sequined hair bands and sported long dresses, saris with jackets, tunics, trench coats, wrap dresses, ponchos, pants and pallazos. To add a more global luxe feel to it,Mishra dabbled with jersey detailing, especially in the trench coats and jackets. Colourful hand embroidery on one short dress was the clear winner because of the amount of intricate detailing. This range easily defines smart dressing, and crisp is a befitting word for it. Sophisticated and well-structured,it was styled with a love for ease. Mishra’s clothes epitomised mature and minimalistic chic.
