After 10 persons were killed on the NH-8 in Gurgaon when a loaded canter crashed into a truck parked by the side of the road,the city police are hunting for the truck driver. They have also stepped up their drive against truck drivers parking their vehicles on the roadside.

“We are taking the issue of haphazard vehicle parking on highways very seriously,which is why regular patrolling of the highways is being done. We issue traffic challans to those found guilty,” said Tahir Hussain,ACP,Bhondsi.

According to the Traffic department,as many as 64,615 challans were issued in Gurgaon for parking vehicles wrongly till November 10 this year. “We have only one slab and do not have a break-up of challans for highways,” said a senior official of the Traffic department.

Till October 31 this year,816 accidents have been recorded in Gurgaon,349 of which were fatal. While 366 people died,737 were injured in the same time period,according to Traffic department figures.

Statistics indicate that this year,there have been 39 fatal accidents on the stretch between Gurgaon and Kherki Dhaula toll plaza.

“We have our own patrolling team. We also have tow-away vehicles to assist cars that break down on the E-way,” said an official of DS Constructions,concessionaire of the Expressway.
