Two women died and three others were injured after a truck rammed into their car Friday night in Gurgaon’s Sohna, police said.

According to police, the family was returning to their village in Dohla, Sohna, from Bhadak village in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh around 10 pm when the incident took place. The women, Rupvati (55) and Urmila (45) died while Hari Om (50), Sushila, and Varsha sustained injuries. A one-year-old boy was also in the car, but escaped unhurt, police said.

The complaint lodged by Indrapal (60), the brother of Hari Om, stated that they were coming home for a funeral in two cars.

He told The Indian Express, “We were traveling in our respective cars. My younger brother Hariom was driving his WagonR with his wife Sushila, my sister-in-law Rupvati, neighbour Urmila, daughter-in-law Varsha, and their one-year-old grandson. I was driving behind them in an Eeco car with my family. At Kanki Mor, a truck from Harichandpur side hit the WagonR car at high speed. The car was pushed 50 metres away from the spot due to the collision… It was mangled and we had to break different parts to pull out my family. The truck driver fled the scene.”

He alleged that passersby arranged vehicles to take the injured to a hospital in Sohna, which did not take them in.
“We had to go to Gurgaon for treatment… Urmila was declared dead on arrival and Rupvati was declared dead later. The injured are in serious condition,” he added.

Police said that the driver had fled the spot after the accident. “We have seized the vehicle and are trying to find the accused. He will be arrested soon,” said an officer.

An FIR was registered against the unidentified driver under IPC sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence) at Sohna police station Friday, police said.
