Days after a 32-year-old woman was found dead at a house under construction in Gurgaon, police have arrested her live-in partner for allegedly murdering her as she didn’t cook food for him.
According to police, the woman had been living with the accused for about six months.
The caretaker of the building lodged a written complaint, based on which a case related to murder was registered at Palam Vihar police station.
Police said they identified the woman as Anjali, originally from Uttar Pradesh, after questioning labourers. “We collected all details regarding the woman and her past, which led us to the accused. We arranged teams and sent them to various parts of Delhi where he was suspected to be present. He was arrested on Saturday from Sarai Kale Khan,” said Sharma.
The accused, Lallan Yadav (35), is a resident of Orahi village in Bihar’s Madhepura.
During police questioning, it was revealed that his wife died six years ago from a snake bite, after which he had conflicts with his family and came to Delhi.
About 6-7 months ago, he met Anjali. “They started living together… Both of them used to work as labourers. On March 10, the couple came to Gurgaon and started working at the house under construction in Choma. Since they had no place to stay, they lived in the same house,” police said.
On the intervening night of March 12 and 13, police said Yadav was inebriated and asked Anjali to cook egg curry. “When she refused, he allegedly beat her with an iron rod and belt, and strangled her, resulting in her death. He fled from the site to evade arrest,” the ACP added.
The iron rods and a belt used in the incident were also seized.
