The Delhi-Jaipur Expressway passing through Gurgaon will soon be used to divide the city into two clusters for the purpose of door-to-door garbage collection tender.
Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya on Tuesday shared the civic body’s initiatives and plans to strengthen the city’s waste management system. “NH-48 will be used to divide the city into two clusters for the purpose of the tender — that is what we are mulling as of now, subject to inputs received from residents and stakeholders,” he said.
Highlighting the Door-to-Door (D2D) waste collection model, he said that the Request for Proposal (RFP) and Solid Waste Management (SWM) by-laws were being uploaded on the MCG website to invite public suggestions for building a cleaner Gurgaon. “We will be adding a Google form for residents to put specific suggestions for changes they want in the RFP.”
Dahiya also revealed that Gurgaon generates approximately 1,200 tonnes of waste daily, with around 40 per cent coming from Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs). The MCG is encouraging the BWGs to comply with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, by managing waste within their premises.
“Several BWGs are already doing commendable work, and others are being actively engaged. Colonies wishing to register as BWGs can start their own waste management systems. Residents and RWAs who want floor-to-floor pick-up and other amenities, which are currently not part of the RFP, are encouraged to register as BWGs,” he told The Indian Express.
Several RWAs had requested the MCG for a pick-up facility from each floor as people step out for work during the day and owing to objections from ground-floor residents.
Under the new D2D waste collection system, 800 vehicles, including e-rickshaws for narrow lanes, will be deployed to enhance efficiency, it was shared.

Currently, the MCG collects waste from households using 330 vehicles without any charge. Dahiya warned that any unauthorised fee collection should be reported to the MCG, and such cases will lead to FIRs.
Also, in view of the worsening poor air quality in the Delhi-NCR that is affecting Gurgaon too, Dahiya said that the MCG is procuring 10 integrated anti-smog guns using funds from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Additionally, road cleaning is being mechanised to reduce dust and pollution.
The municipal corporation had in July planned to set up four zone-wise tenders for doorstep waste collection, against an earlier practice where a single agency was responsible. Prior to that, the civic body had thought of hiring two or three agencies.
