The Gurgaon administration also issued notices to 81 builders for violating norms.

Due to depleting undergroundwater, the district administration here has banned all construction in licensed colonies till the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) gives a green signal for use of recycled sewage and treated water.

The Gurgaon administration also issued notices to 81 builders for violating norms.

The ban will be in force till the builders get permission from Huda to use recycled sewage and treated water.

The Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary of Town and Country Planning S S Dhillon, accompanied by Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner P C Meena and Huda administrator Praveen Kumar, made a surprise visit to licensed colonies along the Golf Course Extension Road in Gurgaon and found that no construction activity was in progress in most places.

While referring to the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court,Dhillon said over-exploitation of groundwater has resulted in the decline of the water table and, hence,a complete ban has been imposed on construction works.

Use of water brought in tankers for construction activities has also been prohibited since Central Ground Water Authority has declared Gurgaon district a “notified area”.

Dhillon said builders could obtain treated water from Municipal Corporation sewage treatment plants at Behrampur and Dhanwapur, once permitted by Huda.
