The Greater Noida police Saturday arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly trespassing on the house of Seema Haider, the Pakistani national who had illegally entered India through Nepal borders with her children to be with her Indian partner in the city in 2023.

Ritu Devi, mother-in-law of Haider, filed the First Information Report (FIR) at the Rabupura Police Station, alleging that an unidentified man tried to forcefully enter her house Saturday. “He started screaming about being unable to open the door. Everyone, including children, inside the house got scared and the police were alerted,” she said.

“We arrested Tejas Jani, a resident of Surendranagar in Gujarat. We suspect that he is suffering from some mental illness,” read a statement issued by the Noida police.

The police also said the man was arrested by the constables deployed outside Haider’s house after threats were made to her on social media following the Pahalgam terror attack.

On being interrogated by the police, Jani allegedly said he wanted to avenge the occult practice done by Haider and her husband. “My father has been missing for a year, and after my mother died of brain cancer three years ago. Seema and her partner, Sachin Meena, are conducting occult practices on me because of which I am distressed,” he was quoted as saying by the police.

According to the police, Jani took a train on May 2 from Gujarat and reached Haider’s house after he had searched her address on the Internet. “We have also found Seema’s and her family members’ photos in his phone,” said a police officer.

“At the time of the incident, Seema was on the terrace of her house while the rest of the members were inside the house,” said Sujeet Upadhayay, Station House Officer (SHO), Rabupura.

“We will be conducting his medical test today to check if he has some mental issues once we receive the court orders,” said Upadhayay.

During interrogation, Jani told the police that he was a fan of the couple and had come to meet and see them. “I did not try to enter their house, and I was just calling their names from outside the gate. There were police constables already deployed, so why would I trespass?” he told the police, according to officers.

An officer, requesting anonymity, said the police have found several photos and videos of the couple on his phone. “He had plans to visit Kashi Vishwanath after meeting Sachin and Seema. He has studied till MCom and is a little delusional,” the officer said.

Senior officials had told The Indian Express that Haider will not be deported to Pakistan, her case is sub judice, and a decision is pending.
