‘If young lives are lost like this, how will society progress…?’ Brother of graphic designer electrocuted in Gurgaon

Akshat (25), a graphic designer, died last Wednesday when he came in contact with a live electric wire, submerged in rain water, near Ghasola road.

Graphics designerAkshat Jain, 25, died after he came in contact with a live electric wire, submerged in rainwater, near Gurgaon’s Ghasola road Wednesday.

“He is gone. He cannot come back now,” says Akshat Jain’s brother, Rishabh, as he mourns the loss of his brother. “Waterlogging has been a severe issue in Gurgaon for some time, and it has now affected us. The drainage system should be repaired to prevent such incidents from happening again,” he adds.

Akshat (25), a graphic designer, died last Wednesday when he came in contact with a live electric wire, submerged in rain water, near Ghasola road. While he was returning home from work, heavy showers had brought the Millennium City to a standstill.

Akshat’s life was cut short, but his family now wants the authorities in the city to fix the issue of waterlogging and ensure that such deaths do not happen in the future. “Also, action should be taken against those responsible,” says Rishabh (35), a businessman.

In a complaint at the Sector 50 police station, a day after his death, Akshat’s family accused the power department of negligence.

“We filed a complaint with the motive that the waterlogging issue should be resolved. Because if young, talented lives are lost in this manner, how will society progress?”

Growing up, Rishabh recalls, he noticed his brother’s inclination towards designing and guided him to pursue training and a career in graphic design. “He was always eager to learn something new and stay updated,” says the elder brother.

While Akshat’s family lives in Vishwas Nagar in East Delhi, he was living in Vatika City in Gurgaon’s Sector 49, closer to his workplace.

Around 10.30 pm last Wednesday, Rishabh was informed that his brother had been electrocuted and that his condition was very serious.

Just as the family was about to leave the house, the police called to tell Rishabh that Akshat had passed away. He shared the news with his brother-in-law but did not tell the seven other family members who were with them as they headed to the hospital. The body was being taken to the Civil Hospital, the police told them.

When the family reached the hospital in Sector 10 around 1.30 am on Thursday, Rishabh decided not to tell their mother about Akshat’s death until morning. But he could not hold that burden too long.

The investigation in the case is ongoing, according to Station House Officer Sukhbir Singh. Police are expected to serve notices to officials concerned soon to join the probe, said sources.
