Ghaziabad woman arrested for stealing gold, Rs 20k from AIIMS hostel; cops say she roamed premises wearing doctor’s coat
The Delhi Police said the accused had a “certain fondness for gold” which prompted her to commit the crime at the AIIMS hostel.

A woman was arrested from Ghaziabad for allegedly stealing gold, at least Rs 20,000 in cash, and Malaysian currency from a hostel at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, the police said Friday. She reportedly roamed through the hostel at night, wearing a white doctor’s coat.
The police said the accused is a 43-year-old Ghaziabad resident who works as a lab assistant at a private hospital. She holds a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Science, officers said, adding that the accused has a “certain fondness for gold”.
The matter came to light when a doctor filed a complaint with the Hauz Khas police on March 27 alleging that gold, including two chains, a pair of earrings, a bracelet and a ring, Rs 20,000 cash and 700 Malaysian Ringgit were stolen from his room at the AIIMS hostel.
Ankit Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South, said, “On analysing CCTV footage, the team found a woman wearing a doctor’s white coat roaming inside the hostel’s gallery. The suspect was found trying to open different rooms at the hostel during odd hours.”
Police personnel in civilian attire followed the accused across the campus and noticed that she travelled on a scooty. “The ownership details of the scooty were obtained from the concerned department. A raid was conducted at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and the suspect was apprehended,” DCP Chauhan said.
“The accused had noticed that rooms in the doctors’ hostel were generally left unlocked. She decided to commit theft at the hostel to satisfy her desire for jewellery. To avoid suspicion among security guards and others, she would wear or carry a doctor’s coat,” the DCP added.
