A couple, both school teachers, were found murdered at their residence in Ghaziabad on Thursday. Police said the suspects allegedly decamped with a Maruti WagonR car and valuables worth Rs 1 lakh after killing Jaikaran Singh (59) and his wife Manchandra Devi (58).
While Manchandra had retired two years ago,Singh was expected to retire in two months.
Police identified the prime suspects as Rahul and Sonu, neighbours of the couple who used to occasionally help out with odd jobs at their house in Nanglaber,Bhojpur area. Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Mishra said,Rahul and Sonu knew the couple. About two months ago,the couple had accused the two of theft after some cash went missing from the house.
As they were probably harbouring a grudge against the couple,we have listed them as prime suspects. Both Rahul and Sonu are missing. A case has been registered.
Stating that the house was found ransacked,a police officer said,The incident occurred around 2 am on Thursday. We are still trying to ascertain whether the couple let the two enter,or they forced their way in. Both Jaikaran and his wife were strangled with a rope.
Efforts are on to track the missing vehicle, and police personnel at the borders have been asked to prevent the duo from entering either Delhi or Uttarakhand, he added.
