Not a conventional paper, say teachers; need to give examples stumps students
The CBSE question papers may have been easy to crack for students till now but Thursdays Class XII geography paper, contrary to their expectations, was tough.
Many students and teachers said the paper was way too difficult as many questions required students to give examples to support their answers.
Samir Gupta,a student at Salwan Public School, said he was disappointed with the paper and was not expecting more than 50 marks.
There were indirect questions and they were asking for examples. One had to give five examples with each question, he said.
I made up some examples but mostly I could only give a few examples per question.
Gupta said his textbook did not have so many examples.
Rahul Singhal,a geography teacher, said about 60 per cent of the paper was application-based which is reason the students found it tough.
The paper wasnt quite tough but the requirement to give examples caught students off guard, he said. It wasnt a traditional paper. The paper was not lengthy,Singhal said.
S K Bhattacharya, president of the Action Committee that represents 1900 schools in the city, said there has to be some consistency in the CBSE question papers.
Some papers are easy and some are difficult, he said. The CBSE must follow one pattern.
Students also said that the economics and accounts papers were quite tough. The accounts paper for Class XII was on March 7. One teacher, who did not wish to be named, said the questions were not framed well and students found it difficult to understand some of them.
The theoretical questions, although only 10 per cent of the paper, were difficult, she said.
