After two failed attempts, the AAP government has given a renewed push to its LED screen project aimed at displaying information about its work and schemes. A fresh tender has been floated to install around 600 LED screens on key stretches at a cost of Rs 294 crore.

According to PWD officials, during the last two attempts, they did not get the desired response from bidders. “Only about three bidders showed interest and the department did not like the response,” said officials.

The LED screens are to be installed at places with a high footfall such as borders, popular market areas, airport, Ring Road junctions, Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs) and other areas.

Of the 86 locations identified, 34 screens will be installed at the New Delhi, Old Delhi and Nizamuddin railway stations, 16 at Kashmere Gate and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT, 12 on Airport Road and 72 on Delhi borders such as Tikri, Auchandi, Lampur, Singh, Ghazipur, Badarpur and others. Besides, about 76 LED screens will be installed at around 19 Delhi Metro stations and all ring roads, junctions and other places in the city. The Delhi government had set aside around Rs 134 crore in its 2022-23 Rozgar Budget for this project.

The objective behind installing these screens is to highlight work done by the government and spread awareness about new schemes, while also displaying public helplines, Covid updates, importance of Covid protocol, pollution data, graphic films, social messages, information regarding policies, and other relevant details of public interest.

Officials said the department has floated fresh tenders and it is expected to be completed in 12 months. “Priority will be given to roads having right of way of 200 ft, 150 ft, 100 ft and roads having large traffic volume and heavy footfall,” said officials.
