Four men allegedly opened fire in a residential colony in Northeast Delhi damaging four cars.

Four men allegedly opened fire in a residential colony in Northeast Delhi damaging four cars. A police officer said the colony residents, who put up a protest later, told the police that the firing had taken place after residents objected to a “gang leader’s criminal activities”.

A police officer said that no one was injured in the incident that took place on Saturday night at L-Block of Naveen Shahdara.

A property dealer,Munna Sabharwal, was allegedly running an illegal betting racket from the residential colony. He reportedly had a tiff with the RWA members and threatened them after they decided to close the three gates of the colony for the public citing “safety reasons”.

This happened about three months ago. The police said that ever since tension has been brewing between the RWA members and Sabharwal. Sabharwal reportedly filed a case in a city court.

On Saturday night, around 10 pm,Sabharwal and his three friends arrived on their motorcycles and allegedly opened fire. They fired six to seven times in the air and broke the window panes of four vehicles. They fled the spot after the incident.

Residents then called the Police Control Room. Police said that they found three rounds of ammunition from the spot.

A case of attempted murder (Section 307 IPC) and relevant sections of the Arms Act was registered at the Shahdara police station against Sabharwal and his accomplices. A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused, said the police.
