ITR FY24-25 Refund Delay: Know the expected refund credit timeline, reasons for delay, how to check refund status, and what to do if your refund is on hold.
ITR FY24-25 Refund Delay: Several taxpayers have been waiting for their income tax refunds after an extended delay in payments.
The non-audit ITRs for fiscal year 2025-26 were filed by September 16, and taxpayers hoped to receive refunds as soon as possible.
While many taxpayers have received their income tax refunds after filing and validating their ITR, several others are still waiting, puzzled why their return is being delayed.
When questioned about the delay in refund issuance, the Income Tax Department stated that the department was evaluating certain of the refund claims that were recognised as “high-value” or “red-flagged” by the system due to requests for specific deductions.
Chairman Ravi Agrawal said on Monday that the tax department is looking into incorrect deductions claimed in certain cases, which is causing a delay in refunds, as PTI reported.
“We have also written to the taxpayers to file a revised return in case they have forgotten something,” he further added.
Though some refunds are pending, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has stated that the “legitimate payouts are expected to be released by December 2025.”
To claim the refund, it’s important to pre-validate your bank account, file the returns, and e-verify; below is a step-by-step guide to know how to check the ITR refund status online.
