The crew on board four Delhi Transport Corporation buses were suspended Wednesday for “wasting time” and parking “their buses unscheduled at ESI Hospital near Tekchand depot”.
The decision was taken by the corporation’s managing director C R Garg following a surprise check he conducted in the south region.
Terming it “ gross misconduct” on their part, three drivers and one conductor — permanent employees of the DTC — were placed under suspension immediately. Three contractual conductors and a driver have been issued show-cause notices for removal from service.

“The MD has given a clear-cut message to all section of employees that any such misconduct on the part of any employee will not be tolerated and stern disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against such defaulters in future too,” said a DTC spokesperson. He added that transport minister Gopal Rai has asked Garg to furnish a report about the incident.
However, Om Prakash Bairwa, national secretary of the Bharatiya Parivahan Mazdoor Mahasangh, said there was no case for suspension in this incident. “Even if we assume that there was misconduct on the part of the drivers and conductor, the rules don’t permit suspension. They could have been summoned and chargesheeted, said Bairwa.
