Four arrested for Dalit girl’s murder

Two days after the body of an 11-year-old girl was found hanging from a tree in Jewar village of Greater Noida,four people — including the girl’s maternal uncle and her cousin — were arrested on Friday. Police said she was killed by the two men so that they could take over a 2,500 sqm plot that the girl was supposed to inherit.

The arrested were identified as Rajesh,the girl’s maternal uncle,Kalu,her cousin,Pradeep,Kalu’s friend,and Ramvati,Rajesh’s neighbour.

According to police,the girl’s ailing grandfather was planning to bequeath the plot of land to his grand-daughter instead of his two sons. “They decided to kill the girl,” Brijesh Kumar,superintendent of police,said.
