A 78-year-old retired IPS officer allegedly committed suicide in his home in Noida’s Sector-33 on Monday morning. Senior police officers said C L Wasan, a 1962-batch IPS officer who served as the Director General of the CB-CID, left a suicide note which said that he was taking the step because he could no longer stand the pain in his back, caused due to acute spondylitis.
A senior police officer said, “His wife Usha was standing outside the house and heard a shot around 9.30 am. She ran inside and found her husband lying in a pool of blood. It seems that Wasan shot himself near the right temple with his licensed .32 pistol. On Saturday, the family had celebrated his birthday. He was troubled by the pain in his back.”
A suicide note addressed to his son said, “Sunny, you are my wonderful son. I can’t bear this pain any longer. Sorry. I am committing suicide and no one is responsible for it.”
Officers said the pain in his back had persisted for four years. “He was undergoing treatment at Kailash Hospital as well. After his retirement in 1993, he worked at a bank and was an active member of of the RWA. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. The bullet and the gun have been seized,” an officer said.
