Delhiites woke to a foggy morning on Thursday. The cloud cover, too, cast a shadow on the city. In the morning, visibility dropped way below 800 metres at the IGI airport. But that did not affect the functioning of flights and later in the day, visibility went up to 1,200 metres.
The moisture level is not sufficient for the formation of Category 3 dense fog, Director in-charge of IGI Met department,Dr R K Jenamani said.
Compared to last week, temperatures dropped by four degrees and will continue to drop over the next few days. The fog too,has come to stay at least till the weekend.
According to the weatherman,on Friday morning, visibility is expected to be around 600 metres. The maximum temperature on Thursday was 23.3 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal. The minimum temperature was 10.4 degrees Celsius.
It could have been colder but for the cloud cover which traps heat, said an official at the Safdarjung Met Department. Snowfall in the Himalayan region will soon reduce the minimum temperature by 2 to 4 degrees in northwest India. So,nights are going to be chilly too.
The Met department said the dense fog would set in after the weekend.
