Film Fraternity

It is set in rural Punjab and is about a farmer who decides to educate only one son while the other works in the fields...

What’s Kissan all about?
Arbaaz: It is set in rural Punjab and is about a farmer who decides to educate only one son while the other works in the fields. The educated son goes abroad and when he returns, his ideals clash with those of his family. I play the educated son,Aman.

Sohail: My character,Jigar,is emotional. That’s how I am in real life and it is easy to play. Arbaaz has done some pretty awesome acting.

Is this social drama?
Arbaaz: Not at all. The backdrop of the movie is issues like agricultural loans and land grabbing, but the movie is more about relationships than issues.

Sohail: It touches on a very serious issue in our country.

Was there a lot of brotherly bonding during the shoot?
Arbaaz: The shooting was on the outskirts of Chandigarh. The entire team was like a big happy family. We all would eat together and discuss the shots every day. I think Sohail was quite stressed out though; he’s the producer, after all.

Sohail: I wasn’t stressed. In fact, everything was so well planned that we finished our shoot three days before schedule. I’ve spent most of my life with my brother so I took this chance to bond with Jackie Shroff. He’s an amazing person. I spent every free minute hanging out with him.

Does this mean no more rib-ticklers from you?
Arbaaz: While the story does have its moments of seriousness,we’ve made a complete entertainer. We have songs, dance, drama, comedy, romance, action, everything.

Sohail: We obviously can’t go out and do any slapstick, but the movie definitely has its light moments.

Arbaaz has just started his own production company,do you have any tips for him?
Sohail: Films are in our blood. But he should take everything easy and think before every step. He’s keeping his ears and eyes open. He already asks a lot of question and that’s the right way to go.

Arbaaz, will you be working with your brothers on all your productions?
Arbaaz: I would love to have my family involved in all my projects, but it’s not a compulsion. Salman is busy; it isn’t easy to find a project that will excite him and for which he will have time. I’ve started my first venture,Dadanng, with him and the rest depends on what the script requires.

What do you love best about each other?
Arbaaz: I love that he is easygoing and responsible at the same time. I often forget he’s the younger one.

Sohail: Arbaaz is just so comfortable in front of the camera. Right now,as a producer,I just love him for being such a great actor.
