‘Fed spiked dal’, Jewellery trader robbed of gold worth Rs 13 lakh in Delhi

The accused were on their way to Delhi from Guwahati when their vehicle was intercepted by the police.
On Monday, Pradeep Kumar (40), an Amritsar-based jewellery trader, reached Delhi with his associate Prabh Singh for a business meeting.
At a hotel in Paharganj, Singh treated his friend to “Delhi Ki Dal”. The next thing Kumar remembers was waking up on Tuesday morning and finding Singh missing — along with his 1.34 kg of gold worth Rs 13 lakh. He was allegedly robbed after his associate fed him ‘spiked’ dal at the hotel, the Delhi Police said.

A police officer said that Singh, also based out of Amritsar, is a gold trader. Singh allegedly accompanied Kumar to the Capital after the latter mentioned a ‘lucrative deal’ he had struck with a Delhi client. Kumar told Singh that he had to carry the consignment to the Capital for the client, police said.
Upon reaching Paharganj, the duo booked a double bedroom at a hotel. At night, Singh told Kumar about a nearby hotel that offered one of the best dal curries in the Capital, police added. “Kumar initially rejected Singh’s offer to have dinner… but later caved,” the officer said.
Upon reaching the hotel, Singh allegedly spiked the dal. “He then took the bag filled with the gold and allegedly fled the hotel around 2 am,” the officer added.
After waking up and realising he had been robbed, Kumar filed a complaint at the Paharganj police station.
An FIR was filed after a preliminary inquiry under sections 305 (a) (theft) and 123 (hurt by poison) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials say they have analysed CCTV footage of the premises and have forwarded the description of the accused to nearby police stations. Singh remains absconding, police said.
