Faridabad couple, daughter, pet dog die of suffocation after AC blasts in 4-storey house

The couple’s 24-year-old son, Aryan Kapoor, survived the blast with injuries as he managed to break a glass window near the terrace door, and escaped to an adjacent building’s terrace with help of neighbours, said an officer.

Firefighters also rescued seven members of a family on the fourth floor by cutting open a locked iron gate on the terrace.

The incident took place at B block of Green Field Colony around 3 am after the fire, suspected to have emerged in an air conditioning (AC) unit on the first floor where the owners of the building resided, filled the building with dense smoke.

A Faridabad police spokesperson said that the Kapoor family, living on rent on the second floor, attempted to escape to the terrace but found the door locked.

“They died of asphyxiation. They were found unresponsive on the staircase between the third and fourth floors, along with their pet dog. Aryan is undergoing treatment for cuts and bruises. Initial probe has found the AC had short-circuited,” the spokesperson stated.

The Kapoor family was rushed to a private hospital, where Sachin, Rinku, and Sujan were declared dead.

The police said that smoke inhalation was the primary cause of death, as no burn marks were found on their bodies. The bodies were handed over to relatives after autopsies.

The police said that the AC used by the landlord had been repaired only a month ago.

Sachin Kapoor also rented the third floor, where he operated a stock market investment office, the police said.

In June, a 66-year-old retired bank manager in Faridabad died after falling from the 14th floor of a tower at the RPS Savana residential society in Faridabad Sector 88 when a skywalk slab collapsed, the police said.
