A month-long programme Mad About Science,an initiative of The Shri Ram School,Aravali, involving teachers, students and parents in understanding science in a unique way, ended with a fair on Sunday.
Stalls had been put up for each class, with students displaying their best experiments that had been conducted all through the month. School authorities said understanding science using common household objects was the aim of the programme. It also witnessed parents dressing to the occasion and performing experiments inside classrooms.
The experiments were conducted for students of ‘Pravesh Vatika (lower KG),Upvan Vatila (higher KG) till Class VII and upwards. The topic of experiments given to students depended on the class they were studying in.
While students of the host school took part in the fair and displayed various experiments with their parents, around 200 students from a school in Mewat were also invited to attend the fair.
Manika Sharma,Principal of Junior School of The Shri Ram School, said after the success of the science initiative, similar events could be planned for other subjects as well in the coming years.
We are thinking of conducting such an initiative with the environment next year and it could be any other subject the year after. Its an effort to take the learning process beyond the confines of the school,by actively involving parents in their childrens education.
While for lower KG students, experiments ranged from floating and sinking of objects in liquid to those with air and space. For Class I students and onwards, the experiments included chemistry, human body and senses, plant and animal biology, energy and weather, among others.
The senior students conducted a project which involved using suspension of bicycles to generate electricity, which can be used to charge mobile phones,iPod and such devices while riding the bicycle.
Arun Bharat Ram,Chairman,CII Environment Council, the chief guest of the event told Newsline,The country needs scientists and such initiatives need to be encouraged.
