Althugh taken aback by exit polls predicting a total washout for it in the Assembly polls, the Congress Thursday put up a brave face and rubbished the survey outcomes.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi held a closed-door meeting with top leaders from Chhattisgarh, perhaps the only state where the party is confident of winning.
Congress spokesperson Bhakta Charan Das said the exit polls were an attempt to mislead the people of the country and demoralise the Congress candidates and workers.
The morning of December 8 will be a new morning…. The real results you will get to know that day, he said. Das said same organisations conducting surveys are giving different results to different news channels.
Das was confident of Congress forming the government in Chhattisgarh, but appeared to be cautious when it came to the other states.
If the poll agencies can predict such a thing in Chhattisgarh, then there must not be any basis for their report in any other state. No polling agency had gone to Chhattisgarh as long as we were there. I do not know who reached there and how. We were shown getting a clear lead in even media reports then, he said.
As far as the other states are concerned,he said: There is a wave for change in Madhya Pradesh. The trend is in favour of the Congress.
