Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, “Guru Tegh Bahadur’s life stands as an enduring example of courage against oppression, intolerance and injustice.”
The event, jointly organised by the Delhi government and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, saw thousands of devotees from India and abroad participating as the commemorations opened with kirtan and other ceremonies.
The Chief Minister said this is the first time an event of this scale is being held in Delhi to mark the anniversary of the Guru’s martyrdom.
Gupta said that he was not only a great Guru of the Sikh faith, but also a protector of all humanity. “By sacrificing his life, he protected India’s religious freedom.”
Cabinet ministers Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Kapil Mishra, along with prominent members of the Sikh community, were also present.
Gupta also paid tributes to Bhai Sati Das, Bhai Mati Das and Bhai Diala, describing their sacrifices as central to the legacy being remembered.
Gupta said arrangements have been made to ensure smooth movement for visitors and urged people to visit the exhibition and museum set-up at the venue. She said the displays, which showcase accounts from the Guru’s life, offer an opportunity for citizens, especially children, to understand the values of service, tolerance and truth associated with his legacy
