(File) The Delhi High Court Thursday asked authorities to ensure that enough security personnel are deployed at the city’s district courts for safety, while observing that district courts have a “huge footfall”.
The court was hearing a batch of pleas on the safety and security in court premises, including a 2021 suo motu petition initiated by the HC after a shootout at Rohini district court in September 2021.
A division bench led by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan orally said he had visited district courts and the “constant refrain” of its judges is that enough security personnel aren’t deployed there and that those deployed were sometimes “20-30% short”.
The bench, also comprising of Justice Mini Pushkarna, thereafter noted the submission of the Delhi High Court Bar Association that it would take up the issue of installation of boom barriers, proximity cards, RFID tags for lawyers’ cars, etc with the building and maintenance committee of the high court.
“This court has no doubt that as and when the issue is raised by the DHCBA, the committee will look into it expeditiously,” the bench noted.
The court listed the matter for further hearing on February 1, 2024.
