East Delhi to keep track of garbage vans using GPS

The East Municipal Corporation will become first corporation in the capital to track its garbage collection vehicles

The East Municipal Corporation will become first corporation in the capital to track its garbage collection vehicles. This would ensure proper waste disposal in the corporation’s area.

Sanjay Surjan, the Standing Committee chairperson of East corporation said 232 auto-tippers do the rounds of East Delhi every day to collect garbage. Yet,the problem of garbage not being cleared from neighbourhoods continues. This prompted the corporation to install GPS trackers on all its garbage disposal vehicles.

Councillors have been given passwords to access the system and they can now track the location of these vehicles on their laptops. Corporation officials said the system will be functional next week.

“We have been working hard to keep the city clean. There have been many complaints that the tippers are parked in one place and do not take rounds of colonies. This has given rise to a serious sanitation crisis. So,we will start tracking the tippers from next week and ensure that they collect garbage from all areas,” Surjan said.

While North and South corporation are in the trial phase of tracking their garbage disposal vehicles,East would be the first one implement the system.

To keep a tab on the work done by the field staff and to give public an easy way to register their complaints, the Delhi government has directed all civic bodies to go online with their complaint logs.

Till now, only New Delhi Municipal Council has an internal system to track the field staff and work done by it through GPS-enabled devices.
