Metro train commuters were taken aback to see rescue operations being carried out at various stations on Sunday morning.
As the passengers, some of whom were stuck in trains and on platforms, watched the Metro personnel rescuing victims, they were relieved to know that the operation was part of a 40-minute-long mock drill.
The operation started at 8 am,when the DMRC Operations Control Centre (OCC) received messages from the Delhi Police and concerned Metro stations that bomb blasts had taken place in the last coach of a Metro train at Dwarka station and on the tracks between Nawada and Dwarka stations.
Mock drills were conducted simultaneously at five different Metro premises early this morning by the Delhi Metro simulating bomb blasts and terrorist attacks. The mock drills were aimed to check preparedness of the Metro staff and related bodies like the Delhi Police,CISF,Delhi Disaster Management Authority,Civil Defence,Delhi Fire Services, Anuj Dayal,DMRC spokesperson, said.
All Metro train operations were suspended during the drill and entry into stations was also closed as a part of standard emergency procedure. Announcements were also made in the Metro trains and stations asking commuters to remain calm.
To make the drill realistic, five terrorist attacks were reported at Kashmere Gate station where the mock terrorists even captured the Station Control Room (SCR).
Personnel of the DMRC,Delhi Police,CISF,DDMA,Civil Defence,Delhi Fire Services and medical services were immediately called in to take the supposed victims to hospitals, tackle the terrorists and evacuate commuters. National Security Guards (NSG) also observed the mock drill.
The situation was brought under control at 8.43 am,when the last terrorists at Kashmere Gate were neutralised.
Delhi Metro has conducted 15 mock drills since 2005 to check preparedness in different situations such as terrorist attacks, evacuation of trains and stations, derailment and fire.

The machines will be mounted on the walls in the paid area of the station. About 42 such machines will be installed in Line I (Dilshad Garden-Rithala),32 in Line II (Jahangirpuri-Central Secretariat) and 60 in Line III (Yamuna Bank-Dwarka Sector 9). Charging points will soon be available for laptops and mobile phones in the 131 new trains which are being inducted for Phase II of the Delhi Metro.
