Worried for the progress of work on various Delhi Metro projects,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has written to Defence Minister A K Antony requesting that Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) not be given work outside Delhi. In her letter to Antony, who heads the group of ministers (GoM) on mass rapid transit system,Dikshit highlighted that DMRC already has on its hands the demanding task of executing the Phase-III of Metro expansion, along with preparing a detailed project report for Phase-IV. Sources said Dikshit decided to write to Antony after Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments announced expansion of the Metro network in their states. In her letter,Dikshit is learnt to have said the announcements were made without the approval of the GoM and without consulting her government, which has a 50 per cent share in DMRC. She said Phase-I of Delhi Metro was completed about a decade ago and needs attention for maintenance and repair. Sources said she also mentioned that a monorail project in Delhi will be entrusted to DMRC,once preliminary studies are done. In the letter written last month,Dikshit asked Antony to advise Uttar Pradesh and Haryana not to make announcements related to expansion of DMRC network without consulting her government, sources said.
