With over 16 lakh registrations since its launch last December, the DigiYatra app has seen a steady rise of users at the Delhi Airport.

Among the total users of the app across airports in India, passengers using the Delhi airport accounted for 1% of registrations in December 2022. It then saw a steady rise of users, with the figure rising by one percentage point every month between January and February this year.

The number of users jumped to 6.22% in March and 8.31% in April. The number dipped in May to 6.97% and then spiked by 10 percentage points the next month.

According to official sources, the sudden spike could be attributed to an increase in domestic tourism during the summer months. The airport sees an average footfall of 50 lakh passengers per month, which peaks during the summer months to around 60 lakh passengers.

According to DIAL officials, the number of DigiYatra users has also increased partly due to the app being made available to non-smart phone users as well.

The Delhi Airport introduced dedicated staff for DigiYatra kiosks in June, where passengers can register on the portal with the help of staff. At the kiosk, the passenger can register on the portal by scanning their boarding pass, their face and their ID proof without using their phones for the process.

The app has been most beneficial for business or short-term travellers and travellers without check-in luggage. Separate queues for app users ensure that time spent at the entry gate and queues for security check is cut down by 25 minutes, DIAL officials said.

Delhi Airport officials expect the number of app users to keep rising, especially after Terminal 1 is reopened post the expansion and integration with Terminal 3. More kiosks and gates for DigiYatra users will be opened to accommodate more passengers as registrations increase, said DIAL officials.
