In the wake of rising cases of dengue in the capital,Delhi Public Schools in the Delhi-NCR region have decided to close down pre-primary and primary sections as a preventive measure. The classes will be closed down with immediate effect till October 13.
In view of dengue assuming epidemic proportions in Delhi,classes from pre-primary to Class V in DPS,Dwarka,will remain closed from October 7 to October 11. The school will reopen for classes on October 14, the circular posted on the schools website read.
We have advised all schools under the DPS umbrella to advance Dussehra vacations for pre-primary and primary classes by a week. We hope the wave will pass by the time classes resume on October 14 , chairman of DPS Society Ashok Chandra said.
According to data collected by civic bodies,2,916 dengue cases have been reported this year till date,with four confirmed and seven suspected deaths. In 2010,the year which saw the last major outbreak of dengue,3,782 patients had been diagnosed with the disease in the same period.
Acting on DPS Societys advice,most schools have put up circulars on their website apprising parents of the immediate closure.
Junior schools of the society such as DPS,Vasant Vihar,and DPS,East of Kailash,will remain closed till October 13. The pre-primary and primary wings of DPS schools in NCR Dwarka,Greater Noida,Faridabad and Indirapuram have already been closed down, Secretary of DPS Society Rajeev Taneja said.
While Dussehra break for students in Class nursery – Class II was initially scheduled from October 9 to October 20,DPS,Rohini,will resume classes on October 15 for nursery to Class V as the holidays have been advanced.
Last week,DPS,Vasant Kunj and East of Kailash had closed down their nursery wings due to the Hand,Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD).
