Demolition at Bhalswa | ‘We owe it to next generation’: Delhi HC flags cattle feeding on toxic waste in Bhalswa
The bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora were dealing with a bunch of applications filed in a pending petition relating to the poor condition of nine designated dairy colonies in Delhi.

“We owe it to the next generation to develop infrastructure for dairies… cows can’t be allowed to feed on toxic waste. Our focus is on the health of citizens rather than anything else,” said the Delhi High Court on Friday days after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was compelled to temporarily halt the demolition at the Bhalswa Dairy Colony amid resistance from thousands of citizens in the area.
The bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora were dealing with a bunch of applications filed in a pending petition relating to the poor condition of nine designated dairy colonies in Delhi.
The HC on Friday extended relief to a few cattle owners, protecting them from the demolition of their properties, following their undertaking that they are willing to shift to the Ghogha Dairy Colony.
Addressing the applicants seeking a stay on demolition of the alleged unauthorised construction in Bhalaswa , the Acting Chief Justice orally remarked, “Contaminated milk is being sold. We are looking at it from the point of view of public health…. This is practically poison. We are not concerned with the illegal construction…You’re looking at it as a land issue..” “If there’s a demolition order, challenge it in accordance with law. If your construction is legal, your property is legal….(otherwise) MCD will take action accordingly,” he added.
“I think it’s the least we can do for the city…You please go to the appellate tribunal of MCD that’s prescribed…” the ACJ said.
