A Delhi Police woman constable sustained injuries after being dragged for a few metres while trying to foil a snatching bid in Northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura, officers said.

The constable, Ritika, 23, was returning to her home from Geeta Colony when the incident occurred on Yamuna Vihar road on March 16 at 4 pm.

Senior officers said that the accused in this case, the snatcher, first pushed Ritika and snatched the constable’s handbag while trying to flee.

“When Ritika caught hold of the accused’s scooter, she got dragged for a few metres while holding it and eventually let go of the vehicle,” a senior police officer further said.

After she raised an alarm, several passersby caught hold of the accused’s vehicle. The man, who was identified as Hayat, 40, was later apprehended.

The handbag consisted of Ritika’s ID card and mobile phone.

She has sustained injuries all over her body due to being dragged and is currently out of danger, added an officer.
