Delhi Underground: ‘Pricey’ tactics

After a home guard was attacked by a miscreant on a bus a few weeks ago, other personnel expressed their reservation over the non-provision of safety equipment like a lathi or a baton to their lot.

The soaring price of onions has made people come up with creative ways to get their hands on the vegetable. With the Delhi government declaring that each person gets only one kg, one woman changed her clothes thrice and queued up to buy onions . Finally, a man who had been standing in the queue for over an hour realised that the woman had bought three kgs by changing her attire. He then created a ruckus.

But this did not deter the woman. In fact, she left after buying one more kg while the man in-charge of the truck pleaded helplessness in dealing with women.

Always at war

After a home guard was attacked by a miscreant on a bus a few weeks ago, other personnel expressed their reservation over the non-provision of safety equipment like a lathi or a baton to their lot. “They don’t understand how dangerous it is for us to be unarmed when we are supposed to be guarding people against criminals. The relationship that a policeman or a home guard shares with a criminal or miscreant is such that they are always at war,” a home guard said.

Tight-lipped

As media reports on the CAG draft report showing irregularities by power discoms in Delhi came to light, AAP leaders maintained that the party’s stand on the power situation had been vindicated. However, leaders in the government remained tight-lipped about receiving the report, let alone reading it. On being informed that a copy of the draft report should have been provided to the government, a senior government official in the power department said, “I haven’t seen the report. Moreover, the subject matter is too technical and I would have to read the report thoroughly to understand the issue.”

Doing his duty

While the judgment was being pronounced in a murder case, the accused thanked the judge for acquitting him. But the judge commented, “I don’t know whether justice has been done. I have passed a judicial order.” The judge then said the evidence in the case was so “vague” that reaching a verdict was difficult.
