Al Falah university. (File Photo)The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) on Wednesday issued a show cause notice to Al Falah University in Faridabad, questioning why legal action should not be initiated against it for allegedly “misleading the public” about its accreditation status.
Located in Dhauj village of Faridabad, the university is under scrutiny after Umar Nabi, Muzammil Ahmad Ganai, and Shaheen Shahid Ansari — staff members at Al Falah School of Medical Sciences and Research Centre — were linked to the Monday’s blast outside the Red Fort.
The notice, dated November 12 and issued by Professor Ganesan Kannabiran, Director of NAAC, informed the university that accreditation for two of its constituent colleges – the Al Falah School of Engineering and Technology and the Department of Teacher Education – expired several years ago. Both colleges, NAAC noted, “have not yet volunteered for the Cycle-2 Assessment and Accreditation (A&A) process”.
Despite this, the notice stated, the university has publicly displayed on its website that “Al Falah University is an endeavour of Al Falah Charitable Trust… [and that] since 1997, Gaddar Gyanbhuti Rawal (sic) Biml College of Engineering and Technology (since 2008), and Al Falah School of Education and Training (since 2006, Graded ‘A’ by NAAC)”. NAAC wrote that this is
“absolutely wrong and misleading the public, especially the parents, students and stakeholders.”
Based on these findings, the Executive Committee of NAAC has asked the university to explain “why action deemed appropriate, including legal, should not be initiated against the Al-Falah University.”
Meanwhile, the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) on Thursday revoked Al Falah University’s membership. The university will no longer be able to use the name or logo of AIU and the logo must be removed from the university’s official website, an AIU release said.
The developments come after Al Falah University issued a statement distancing itself from Muzammil Ahmad Ganai and Shaheen Shahid Ansari.
“We have learnt that two of our doctors have been detained by investigating agencies. We wish to make it clear that the University has no connection with the said persons, apart from them being working in their official capacities with the University,” said Dr Bhupinder Kaur Anand, Vice-Chancellor of Al-Falah, as per a statement from the university.
According to the probe, Umar was the man who had driven the Hyundai i20 that exploded near the Red Fort on Monday evening, killing 10 people.
